Meizu 21 Pro Released with Shape Memory Alloy AF and OIS

Meizu launched the 21 Pro at the end of February 2024 with Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) AF + OIS actuator technology selected to enable autofocus (AF) and lens shift optical image stabilisation (OIS) in the main 50MP (1/1.3”) camera.

The Meizu 21 Pro follows on from the Meizu 21, which launched in November 2023, with some key upgrades. The Meizu 21 Pro boasts a 50MP main camera with an Omnivision 1/1.3” image sensor, a 13MP ultrawide camera and a 10MP periscope telephoto camera capable of 3x optical zoom and 30x digital zoom. The selfie camera sports a 32MP image sensor and f/2.4 aperture.

The 21 Pro is equipped with a 6.79-inch AMOLED display, a ToF depth sensor for improved AF, a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Applications Processor and a 5050 mAh battery. Furthermore, the Meizu 21 Pro is integrated with an ultra-sonic fingerprint scanner. Meizu’s stated strategy on adopting AI is reflected in the Meizu 21 Pro as it opens access to Large Language Model (LLM) developers.

Meizu selected SMA Lens Shift AF+OIS in the main camera for the advantages it brings. These include having both AF and OIS in a single actuator whilst delivering flagship performance for both functions and seamless integration into the smartphone hardware and software. SMA actuators deliver a high force-to-mass ratio which means optimised performance, even when moving heavy optics associated with large image sensor format camera modules.

CML’s actuator designs are shipping in high volume in multiple premium smartphones. For more details about Cambridge Mechatronics and SMA technology, please GET IN TOUCH.
