Huawei's P50 Pro launch highlights several smartphone camera trends
Huawei have reclaimed the #1 position at the top of the DxOMark smartphone camera leaderboard, with the launch of the P50 Pro.
The handset features 4 rear facing high resolution cameras, with optical image stabilization (OIS) on 2 of the lenses. The continuing adoption of multiple OIS actuators per handset is an important trend for CML, as not only does it mean that our addressable market is continuing to increase, but also the requirement to squeeze multiple actuators into the handset means a non-magnetic design such as SMA is required so that the actuators do not interfere with each other or other sensitive components.
The P50 Pro also includes an autofocus (AF) actuator on the front facing camera, a more recent trend, and the first time Huawei have done so. This enables end users to capture more professional selfie photos and videos for sharing on platforms such as TikTok, Youtube and Twitch. The challenge for smartphone OEMs is that there is even less space on the front side of the handset for bulky camera modules. CML has a range of low z-height OIS and AF actuators, ideally suited for next generation handsets and giving our customers more flexibility with their handset design.
