HONOR announces the Porsche Design Magic6 RSR and Magic6 Ultimate with Shape Memory Alloy AF and OIS
HONOR unveiled two new flagship smartphones in a launch event that continues the design collaboration with Porsche. The Porsche Design Magic6 RSR comes with a hexagonal camera island and the Magic6 Ultimate a rounded rectangular camera island. Both handsets feature Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) AF + OIS actuator technology.
The HONOR Porsche Design Magic6 RSR and Magic6 Ultimate both boast the same camera configuration, albeit in different island design elements; a 50MP front camera, a 50MP main camera with OmniVision OVH9800 (Howell OV50K) image sensor with a f/1.4 – 2.0 variable aperture, a 180MP periscope telephoto lens for 2.5x optical zoom and a 50MP ultra-wide-angle lens. The camera configuration and SMA AF+OIS technology is the same as the HONOR Magic6 Pro, which currently has the highest score on the DxOMark charts with 158 points.

HONOR highlighted the ultra-dynamic eagle-eye camera system that matches DSLR quality. Examples include improved image sensor 15EV dynamic range, variable aperture, optical image stabilisation (OIS), faster autofocus (AF) and more accurate focus locks. The Porsche Design Magic6 RSR has a dual layer OLED display that extends the screen lifetime and reduces brightness degradation.
Honor selected SMA Lens Shift AF+OIS in the main camera for the advantages it brings. These include having both AF and OIS in a single actuator and a high force-to-mass ratio supporting the addition of a variable aperture in the main camera. Using SMA AF achieves fast focus enabling fast shutter speeds. The top-ranking score of the HONOR Magic6 Pro underlies the quality of the camera performance.
The Porsche Design HONOR Magic6 RSR incorporates a cutting-edge LiDAR Matrix Autofocus System to revolutionise the speed of smartphone photography. The SMA AF is then able to greatly enhance focusing accuracy and speed.
HONOR is proud to unveil the PORSCHE DESIGN HONOR Magic6 RSR, a technological icon fueled by the essence of Porsche DNA and created with the drive to go beyond the status quo,”
- George Zhao, CEO of HONOR Device Co. Ltd.
The Honor Magic6 series is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen3 and runs on MagicOS 8.0, which features AI-driven gesture recognition for human-machine interactions. The handsets are now available to order in China, with sales of the RSR expected to commence outside of China in Q2.
