Cambridge Mechatronics launches ultra slim OIS+AF solutions for premium smartphone cameras

Working with our tier 1 module integrator partners, we have developed an actuator which is less than 3mm in height, for an image sensor format as large as 1/1.3”.

Achieving a combined OIS and AF solution in such a compact form factor is only possible with CML’s unique SMA actuator technology. Our SMA wire is thinner than a human hair and is orientated horizontally, meaning that the resulting actuator design far surpasses what is possible using the nearest competing VCM actuator, and with no compromises on reliability or performance.

The premium smartphone market continues to add more cameras per handset and use larger image sensor formats, both causing the unsightly camera bump to continue to get larger. CML’s SMA technology means that our OEM partners can continue to bring innovative camera improvements to market without adding z-height to their designs.

This 1/1.3” actuator is ready for sampling now and the design can scale to use our customers chosen image sensor format, even up to 1”. To learn more, please contact CML here.
