HONOR launches the Magic 6 and Magic 6 Pro with Shape Memory Alloy AF and OIS
Cambridge Mechatronics Ltd (CML) is pleased to announce that Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) AF + OIS actuator technology has been selected to enable autofocus (AF) and lens shift optical image stabilisation (OIS) in the HONOR Magic 6 and Magic 6 Pro handsets, which launched in January 2024.
The HONOR Magic 6 series boasts a 50MP front camera, a 50MP main camera with an 1/1.3” OmniVision OVH9000 image sensor and a 50MP ultra-wide-angle lens. The Magic 6 includes a 32MP 2.5x telephoto lens and the Magic 6 Pro adds a f/1.4-f/2.0 variable aperture for the main camera, a TOF depth-sensing camera to the front and a 180MP periscope telephoto lens to the rear.
During the launch event, HONOR emphasised the DSLR-level camera experience the new handsets offer consumers. These comprise faster shutter speeds with fast and precise focus, brightness and focal point depth control with variable aperture, higher dynamic range and higher optical zoom with the 180MP periscope camera.
Honor selected SMA Lens Shift AF+OIS in the main camera for the advantages it brings. These include having both AF and OIS in a single actuator and a high force-to-mass ratio supporting the addition of a variable aperture in the HONOR Magic 6 Pro main camera. Using SMA AF achieves fast focus enabling fast shutter speeds.
