Cambridge Mechatronics wins “Disruptive Technology” award at the Business Weekly Awards

Cambridge Mechatronics Ltd (CML) has been recognised for its groundbreaking work in Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) actuator technology, winning the "Disruptive Technology" category at the 34th Business Weekly Awards. The black-tie ceremony, held on 11 September 2024 at Queens' College, celebrated Cambridge Mechatronics’ impressive achievements over the past year.

The award highlights a transformative period for CML, including record shipments of SMA actuators, a successful $40 million funding round, expanding into new market areas including semiconductors. Nicholas Bewes (right side in photo), CEO of the Howard Group, presented the award to CML and praised CML's innovative leadership in precision motion solutions, noting the applications across smartphones, AR/VR, wearables, and more.

Cambridge Mechatronics was one of 52 shortlisted companies at the event. As part of the judging process, all companies completed an interview by Mills & Reeve and gave a pitch to a panel of judges.

The event featured Dr Hermann Hauser (on the left side in the photo above), Co-founder of Arm and Amadeus Capital Partners, who gave a keynote speech in which he shared the story of Arm by means of some meaningful numbers, from the initial investment to start Acorn computers (£100) to the current valuation (£116B).

Cambridge Mechatronics was very thankful to be hosted by Cambridge Science Park, and were seated alongside other Cambridge Science Park tenants such as the Royal Society of Chemistry, Astex and Tusperk.

This recognition places Cambridge Mechatronics among other notable companies and category winners, such as Bicycle Therapeutics (Investment of the Year), bit.bio (Life Science Innovation), Cellular Origins (The Pathfinder Award), CMR Surgical (International Trade), Echion Technologies (Tech Scale-Up), Ethicronics (Graduate Business of the Year), Healx (Life Science AI), Levidian (Sustainability Champion), Luminance (AI Innovation), Nuclera (Life Science Scale-Up), QPT (Young Company) and Secondmind (Sir Michael Marshall Engineering Excellence).
